On October 2, 2020 the Interreg Med Urban Transports Community organised a side event during the EU Urban Mobility Days on “Sustainable mobility solutions in the Mediterranean: Successes and lessons learnt of pioneer cities”. The webinar showcased some of the most innovative solutions on sustainable mobility designed and tested in recent years by Mediterranean cities part of the Community and proposed some guidelines on how to replicate and adapt some of these innovative solutions in other cities.
The webinar, moderated by Laia Vinyes Marcé from MedCities, was the occasion to invite potential replicators to the upcoming UTC series of thematic webinars “Implementing Sustainable Mobility in the Mediterranean”, taking place every Wednesdays from October 7 to November 25, 2020 to facilitate local mobility stakeholders and key players joining forces to foster sustainable mobility in Southern European Cities.
Christos Gioldasis from CIVINET CY-EL anticipated the launch of the Call for Sustainable Urban Transports Implementing Cities, a unique opportunity to access the tools, resources and competences to replicate identified good practices by pioneer cities through a peer-learning and mentorship process.
Participants had the opportunity to get some insights about the Catalogue of Solutions produced by the Community, which includes different measures adopted by the Pioneer Cities. These solutions, grouped under 5 main topics, were presented by some partners of the project: data for smart traffic management (Christos Gioldasis / CIVINET CY-EL), soft mobility (Laia Vinyes Marcé / Medcities), shared mobility (Floreta Kertusha/ Durres Municipality), mobility in Med tourist destinations and new planning approaches (Antoine Clémot / CODATU).
The Urban Transports Community is an Interreg MED Programme initiative that promotes sustainable urban mobility solutions across the Euro-Mediterranean region. Gathering seven territorial cooperation projects, almost 120 organisations active in twelve countries, this initiative proposes, capitalises and replicates effective and sustainable mobility solutions to reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of life of the population and the environment.
The Urban Transports Community is featured by a project lead by MedCities (Barcelona, Spain), in partnership with UNIMED Mediterranean Universities Union (Rome, Italy), Area Science Park (Trieste, Italy), CODATU (Lyon, France), CIVINET CY-EL (Cyprus-Greece), POLIS, Cities and Regions for transport innovation (Brussels, Belgium), and Durres Municipality (Durres, Albania).
