What is the objective and procedure of the EU Public Consultation on Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy?

The EC is working on a comprehensive Strategy for a Sustainable and Smart Mobility. While taking into consideration the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sector, the strategy will set a pathway for the sector towards the sustainable and digital transitions, building a resilient and crisis-proof transport system for generations to come and delivering on the ambition set out in the European Green Deal and Europe Fit for the Digital Age Communications. In this context, the public consultation seeks to gather the views of citizens and stakeholders on the elements of the Strategy.

What does it consist of?

The Public Consultation entails a response from citizens and institutions to a survey to which we can also upload a document to substantiate our contribution (i.e. it can be an ad hoc text, a position paper, etc). The survey is divided into two parts and an attached document:

1.     comments on the "Roadmap to a Single European Transport Area – Towards a competitive and resource efficient transport system" presentation and full text here

2.     comments on the preparation of the new "Strategy for a Sustainable and Smart Mobility" that will be submitted to the European Commission by the end of 2020.

3.     attached document to substantiate our suggestions and comments sent via the survey.

The last two points are those of interest to the Community.

The Public Consultation is open until September 23rd

Objective of the meeting and action

The objective of the meeting is to clarify what this Public Consultation is and its relevance for the projects partners and associate stakeholders of the Urban Transports Community, and to learn how these processes influence the EU Policy making in their field of interest.

It will be an opportunity to collect inputs and ideas to draft a common document (max 2 pages) to advocate for an enhanced territorial cooperation on sustainable mobility where urban areas must play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable development at regional level. This document aims at highlighting the value of being part of an Interreg MED thematic community on Urban Transports.

As it is not possible to reply to the survey as a project, the idea is that each project partner of the Urban Transport Community submits an answer to the survey (as mentioned in point 2) attaching a brief document prepared based on the brainstorming session. Each project is free to reply to the public consultation freely, expressing their views on each of the questions.
