The Interreg MED Piazza offers the experience of a holistic and multi-stakeholder policymaking process through the participation in interactive activities, such as games and debates focusing on strategies for a greener, smarter and more connected future for Europe. The lab takes inspiration from Interreg MED Communities’ experiences, where almost 900 public and private organisations from 13 Euro-Mediterranean countries join forces in territorial cooperation projects to shape policies for sustainable development and cohesive communities in more resilient ecosystems.
The participatory lab will make participants experience the Interreg MED Communities multi-stakeholders and holistic approach in the Interreg MED Piazza. The public square - piazza - is the most iconic space where exchanges and neighbour’s relationships took place, a cohesive urban space and a catalyst of societies drive for change towards a greener, smarter and more connected future for Europe.
The innovative architecture of the Interreg MED Programme enables interactions and a synergic working dynamic between territorial cooperation projects within thematic communities and beyond, as partners organisations do join forces to shape policies for sustainable development and cohesive communities in a more resilient ecosystem. In this framework, almost 900 public and private organisations from 13 Euro-Mediterranean countries exchange knowledge, experiences and concerns, like in a public square, where effective policies should take shape.
To experience a holistic and multi-stakeholders approach participants are invited to join a series of 20 minutes interactive activities, gamified simulations and “terrace debates” designed by the Interreg MED Communities, which recreate different aspects of a lively public square of Mediterranean coastal regions.
1/ “Designing sustainable lifestyles in the Mediterranean”. Drawing, commenting and amending elements of sustainable and unsustainable lifestyle represented on a big-size illustration of a typical Mediterranean coastal town;
2/ “Let it go, let it flow!” Simulating the flows of people and goods on a board game / scale model of a Mediterranean coastal town with all the hotspots of urban mobility to help designing sustainable mobility plans;
3/ “Terrace debates”: facilitated by an expert/representative of a public authority, participants will exchange knowledge and experiences to propose a solution to a strategic aspect of sustainable lifestyle;
4/ “Craft your Microgrid!” Skill game to learn more about how energy communities function in different contexts, for that purpose players have the option to choose to play in an urban neighborhood, an island or a rural village.
A representative from the Interreg MED Communities will open and close the Lab while two facilitators ensure a smooth workflow of the activities. A representative of the private sector, one local and an EU- level policymaker will also join the terrace debates.
