The Urban Transports Community is an Interreg MED Programme initiative launched in November 2016 and renewed in October 2019 until June 2022. The Community is promoting sustainable urban mobility planning in the Euro-Mediterranean region as an effective tool to reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of life of the population and the environment.
Launched in November 2016 for a three-year period, the Urban Transport Community has been officially renewed until June 2022. Almost 100 organisations active in 12 countries have joined forces to promote tools and policies to develop sustainable urban mobility planning in the Euro-Mediterranean coastal areas. With the renewal, the Community has the opportunity to bring the capitalisation process to the next level by providing local authorities with a tailor-made support to implement the replicable solutions developed and tested by our Community.
On 12 December 2019, the new partnership has gathered for its first Steering Committee in Marseille (France) at the Région Sud - PACA premises, in the framework of the Joint Secretariat coordination meeting with the Horizontal Projects, Modular Projects and Panoramed project.
As the new phase of the Community will be more policy-oriented, the partnership has slightly changed to take onboard the experience of partners already active in the Interreg MED Projects and to include strategic regions which were not represented in the previous partnership. Therefore, the Urban Transports Community partnership is now led by MedCities (Barcelona, Spain), in partnership with UNIMED - Mediterranean Universities Union (Rome, Italy), Area Science Park (Trieste, Italy), Civinet ( Greece), CODATU (Strasbourg, France), Polis Network (Brussels, Belgium) and Durres Municipality (Albania).
During the Steering Committee the partnership has defined a common roadmap to achieve the Community’s objective, as well as the main features of the project’s milestones. The project partnership has also taken advantage of the coordination meeting organised by the Joint Secretariat to set the ground for joint actions with the other Interreg MED thematic communities and the Panoramed project, as well as to discover the newly approved territorial cooperation projects and strategic projects on governance.
