From 6 to 9 November 2018 the Urban Transport Community, UTC, has been in Rimini, Emilia Romagna region- Italy, on the occasion of the 22^ edition of Ecomondo: the Green technology expo. The event, considered the biggest of this kind in the Italian panorama of green and circular economy, has hosted many exhibitors among which also institutional partners like the Italian Ministry for Environment, Land and Sea Protection and the European Commission, represented through different EU funded programs and projects. The UTC has been there in representation of all its modular projects and with some of them, to visibilize the work they realised and to look for new tendencies, new possible partners and synergies.
(Rome, 20 NOV 2018) During the 4-day event the Med Urban Transport community shared a stand with other five of the eight communities of the Interreg MED Programme, under the lemma “Empowering territories for a sustainable Mediterranean”. In this space, the projects of the communities were invited to take part in the side events, organized with the support of the respective horizontal project, in dedicated time slots. The stand named PIAZZA has welcomed many students, possible partners for the projects, some of which already familiar with the programme, and visitors catched by the design of the stand. The PIAZZA space, in fact, was decorated with a huge banner, realized by the Greek illustrator Yorgos, representing an ideal Mediterranean where innovation and competitiveness are linked to concepts like circular bioeconomy and sustainable lifestyle.
On 6th November, opening day of the expo, the six thematic communities co-organized in the afternoon a conference with three panel debates: Circular economy opportunities and challenges in the MED area; Innovation for sustainability in the MED area; Governance, citizens awareness and participation for a Sustainable Mediterranean. Chaired by Mrs. Alexa Boulanger (from Environment Park, partner of the Renewable Energy Community) and with the moderation of Mrs. Ana-Maria Paladus (from Fondazione Ecosistemi, partner of the Green Growth Community), Mr. Mirko Djurovic (from the University of Montenegro, partner of the Blue Growth Community) and Mr. Ermete Mariani (from UNIMED, partner of the Biodiversity Protection, Urban Transport and Sustainable Tourism communities), the conference saw the participation of Mrs. Eleni Papazacharopoulou from the Interreg MED Joint Secretariat and Mr. Michele Colavito, representative of the Italian Agency for territorial cohesion, one of the partner institutions of the PANORAMED transversal Governance platform of the Interreg MED Programme.
On 8th November, with an ideal version of the Mediterranean as scenography, under the stand 17 of pavilion D4, the modular projects MOBILITAS, represented by the PUMS (Piano Urbano per la Mobilità Sostenibile- Urban Plan for Sustainable Mobility) of the Municipality of Rimini, and SUMPORT, represented by the Institute for Transport and Logistic project consultant, met the public during the “Terrace”. They enjoyed this time space completely dedicated to the urban transport community and had the opportunity to dialogue with interested and curious visitors about the updates from their activity; while other modular projects previously prepared promotional material to be shared by the representative of the horizontal project.
This was the first participation of the UTC in Ecomondo and the balance is positive, with young students writing on our stand wall, expressing their concerns about the problems that their cities are facing or how they are better managing the urban mobility, visitors curious to play with the gamified version of a Mediterranean coastal town and its mobility issues and a fruitful reflection on the need to keep working on drafting recommendations for the policy makers, based on the evidence of the testing projects.
